CARB COMPLIANCE
What is the purpose of CARB?
Reduce formaldehyde emissions from composite wood products and finished goods containing composite wood products. These composite materials made from wood fibers, chips and pieces are bonded together with adhesives. The focus of this regulation is on plywood, particleboard and MDF fiberboard; (HDF is exempt) which contain adhesives that have formaldehyde.

CARB Regulation: California Code of Regulations 93120.12 title 17
AIRBORNE TOXIC CONTROL MEASURE TO REDUCE FORMALDEHYDE EMISSIONS FROM COMPOSITE WOOD PRODUCTS

Under this regulation effective January 1st, 2009 these products must meet specific emission levels set forth in 93210 based on test methods established in ASTME 1333-96.
IMPORTANT: the CARB Final Regulation Order does allow sell through provisions.

How does it affect wood doors?
The regulations directly affect wood doors manufactured for installation within the state of California. This is due to composite materials used in the fabrication of wood doors such as particle board core and composite cross-bands.

Is Oregon Door Compliant?
According to the sell through provisions of the CARB Final Regulation Order Section 1B1 page 38, Oregon Door can extinguish existing inventories of non-compliant material.

After that period, Oregon Door will be compliant with the new formaldehyde emission levels required under CARB Phase 1 commencing Jan 1, 2009. All shipments into California will be labeled as such.
